Global Microplastics: An Investigation into Marine and Freshwater Pollution. Abby Barrows is a marine research scientist who has traveled the Southern Ocean and South Pacific by boat, trekked the Himalaya, explored the Middle East, researched sea turtles and big cats in South and Central America, dived Mediterranean wrecks, and worked aboard schooners and lobster boats in the Gulf of Maine. Everywhere, she encountered plastic pollution, which inspired her to begin directing microplastic pollution research in 2013. In this free virtual presentation hosted by the Wells Reserve, she will talk about where microplastics are found, where they come from, how they affect marine species, their potential environmental impacts, and what people can do about this pervasive plastic pollution. Registration required at wellsreserve.org/calendar.
