COVID-19 burst onto the scene and quickly set about limiting in-person interactions as well as shuttered libraries\, restaurants\, and many other local businesses. Even as the isolation and rapidly dwindling daylight began to take a toll on the collective sanity\, mobile technology and an old art form combined to bring light and community to the world. Sea shanties roared into life via TikTok and many people started wondering\, what are sea shanties? Sea shanties were commonly sung as work songs on ships to keep time for a repetitive or rhythmic task. However\, songs like this have been used all over the world to build community and get work done in a collective format. As Bennett Konesni says on The Worksongs Community Chorus website\, sea shanties "Knit community back together in a frayed world." We are pleased and grateful to welcome Bennett virtually to the Wells Public Library for a presentation of sea shanties on Tuesday March 23\, 2021 at 6:30 pm via Zoom.\n\nPlease email Stefanie Claydon at sclaydon@wellstown.org for a Zoom invitation.\n\n \n\nThis free event is sponsored by the Friends of the Wells Public Library.
